Acer releases new A700 tablet with Retina-like display – Part 3
Saturday, June 16th, 2012 4:01:32 by Usman KhalidDetails on the GPU are yet to arrive from the company. For the first time in an Android tablet, the graphics card is of foremost importance as the new tablet has a very dense screen.
Software
A700 comes equipped with Google’s latest iteration of Android mobile operating system, Android 4.0.3 or Ice Cream Sandwich.
Though the new OS has a number of new features that are upgrade to the Honeycomb, Acer has installed a number of its own applications and a user-interface called Acer Ring.
The Ring is an app in the shape of a carousel that can be initiated by tapping on the green ring found at the bottom of the screen. The carousel offers up to four applications for quick launch and unlimited number of bookmarks.
However, the web browser in the A700 is very user friendly and use of Ring makes the procedure of opening a bookmark little longer. Therefore, the use of Ring is absolutely an unwanted extra that hassles up an already easy process.
A more detailed list of applications will be released when the review unit arrives. However, for a start, the mere inclusion of ICS is news.
Conclusion
The new A700 is appropriately priced at $449, especially with a new, denser screen. The shape is very familiar to the last iteration from Acer but the screen makes a big difference. Though the company did not release details on the tablet’s screen panel but the wide view angles suggest that the device uses iPS panels. This makes it A700 a better option for reading than other Android tablets.
On the other hand, it is more grippy than most of the competition in the market and light-weight as well.
Overall , new A700 is a better option to all the Android tablets considering it has a quad-core processor and a Retina-like display.
