Islamabad: (Monday, June 18, 2012) Malik Riaz Hussain, former chairman of Bahria Town, has expressed fears to his life and has demanded security from the Supreme Court of Pakistan.
Riaz expressed his concerns and demands in a plea submitted to the apex court today.
The real estate business tycoon maintained in the plea that during last hearing when he appeared in the court, some lawyers had threatened him with dire consequences.
Riaz feared that he might be attacked during the upcoming hearing on June 21 when he has to appear before the SC judges’ panel again.
The five-page long application also claimed that a ‘planned campaign’ is being carreid out against Riaz in both the print and electronic media, and this too has raised the risks to his life.
Arguing in the application, he maintained that he is a tax-paying Pakistani citizen, and thus, should be provided with complete security during the court hearings so that he may continue to contest his case in the apex court freely.
Malik Riaz happens to be the central character in the financial scam popularly dubbed by the media as ‘Familygate’, which also involved Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry’s son Arsalan Iftikhar. Earlier, Riaz had accused
Iftikhar Chaudhry’s son of receiving Rs 340 million from him on the promise of getting cases pending in the apex court settled in his favour.
