Islamabad: (Monday, June 18, 2012) France has provided Pakistan with 10.1 million dollar for the preparation of feasibility report for Munda Dam near Swat. The country has also promised to provide 1.5 billion dollars for its construction
of the said dam.
Telling details of the project, Shakil Durrani, Chairman WAPDA, told the journalists that work on the execution of Munda Dam project with a capacity to produce 740 MW electricity had been started at an accelerated pace.
He was of the view that the feasibility, survey and designing of the project would be completed within 18 months while Rs 400 million would be spent on it in the next fiscal year.
France has pledged to provide Rs 300 million while the rest of Rs 100 million will be shared by Pakistan.
The WAPDA chairman said that on one hand the project would produce 740 MW electricity and on the other it would help safeguard Swat from floods besides storing 1.5 million acres of water.
