LG Optimus 4X HD (2012): Full Review – Part 4
Monday, June 18th, 2012 4:44:33 by Usman KhalidNFC Chip is a welcome though we have seen it in many devices now. It still has a special place in LG handsets. The Korean company ships three Tag+ stickers with Optimus 4X HD, Sleep, Car and Office. The user can customize the profiles for every mode like screen brightness, ring volume and alarm clock, et cetera.
However, the phones needs to get used to the stickers and becomes reliably fluent after three or four tries.
There are other functions that the user can perform with the NFC chip. For example, it has an app called Beam that allows the phone to send web pages and contacts with a single tap. The phone’s back has to be joined with that of another smartphone with the same technology, however.
Both cameras in the Optimus 4X are of HD quality, however, front-facing 1.3-mega pixel snapper maxes out at 720p video quality. The rear, primary camera has five scene modes, normal, portrait, landscape, sports, and night; four ISO options 100, 200, 400, and auto; five white balances auto, incandescent, sunny, fluorescent, and cloudy; and four color effects (none, mono, sepia, and negative.
The front facing camera has the same functionalities save the scene mode; it only has two, normal and night.
The camera quality is good and the colours do not wash out. The IPS technology in the screen forwards the real-like colours from the nature, with greens like real greens and blacks like real, deep blacks.
The front facing snapper however, has only two options to edit the photos; it can soften the picture to remove the grainy parts.
The call quality is good but not better than the competition in premium niche. There is distortion and noise on both ends. The speaker phone could have been improved to give a better quality overall.
Conclusion
LG Optimus 4X HD lives up to its name. Nearly every latest feature is packed in this smartphone and still it is 0.31 inches thin. The design is simple and very elegant. The overall look and feel of the phone is premium and there is no reason it should not be. At $566 without any contract it is on the pricy end of the bargain but quad-core processor and NFC chip are all worth the penny.
