There can’t be a rematch with Bradley: Bob Arum
Tuesday, June 19th, 2012 2:19:13 by Imran Shaukat KhanThe eight-division world champion, Manny Pacquiao, recently lost his battle via a controversial twelve round split decision against Timothy Bradley last Saturday at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. Bradley has offered Pacquiao a rematch on November 10 but it looks as if it is not going to happen because the CEO of Top Rank, Bob Arum, thinks it will not sell at all.
The Filipino dominated most of the rounds against Bradley but at the end everyone was left flabbergasted, when the judges announced Bradley as the winner.
Arum said, “There can’t be a rematch (with Bradley). Its very, very hard to sell a rematch because it was a one-sided fight.”
With Bradley out of the scene, the focus is now quickly shifting to a fourth showdown between Pacquiao and Juan Manuel Marquez for November 10.
While sharing his thought with BoxingScene.com/Manila Standard, Arum stated he is just waiting for Pacquiao’s return so he could discuss all the possibilities with him.
He said, “Pacquiao fought a very close, controversial fight with Marquez that some people felt Marquez won. He fought a fight with Bradley that nobody thought he lost, other than the two judges,” whom he had condemned as “blind nice.”
Arum remarked, “I can’t make any plans for Manny until I meet with him when he comes back. I will meet with him and we’ll decide (about staging the fight) either in the United States or Mexico or some place else. We’ll sit down and have an intelligent discussion.”
During the interview, Arum also admitted that to promote a fourth fight between Pacquiao and Marquez, a lot of money would be required. He said he was told this by the big-time Mexican promoter Fernando Beltran.
Well, all said and done, let’s see what Manny Pacquiao decides upon his return.
