I don’t want to be called a Bollywood actress: Richa Chadda
Tuesday, June 19th, 2012 11:05:04 by Imran Shaukat KhanThe small-time Indian theatre, film actress and TV commercial model, Richa Chadda, has insisted that she would like to be known as a Hindi actress instead of a Bollywood actress.
Chadda, who made her debut with a critically acclaimed performance in ‘Oye Lucky! Lucky Oye!’, stated that Indian filmmaking industry is giving a very tough competition to the Hollywood industry and she is proud of it.
The actress said India should maintain her own stance and should not derive a name just because there is a Hollywood.
“I don’t like the word Bollywood. I don’t want to be called a Bollywood actress. I would like to be called a Hindi film actress… I don’t mean to challenge Bollywood, I love it. But I don’t think we should derive a name just because there is Hollywood,” Richa told IANS.
“We are the only industry in the world that has guts to stand up in front of Hollywood. If you go to Europe, their cinema is suffering. In Japan and China, everywhere cinema has taken a huge hit because of Hollywood. And Hollywood is America’s largest export to the world.”
“I feel very proud to be part of the industry which has the guts to make big budget, expensive films,” she said.
Chadda stressed that Bollywood is an imaginary name but it is actually the Hindi film industry in which every artist is working.
The actress has recently completed shooting for Anurag Kashyap’s upcoming film ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’, which is scheduled to hit cinemas on this June 22.
The crime thriller was also showcased at the 65th Cannes International Film Festival and it was appreciated by many over there.
When asked Chadda, who will play lead role in the film, she said, it was a lifetime experience for her.
Along with Chadda, ‘Gangs of Wasseypur’ will also feature the likes of Manoj Bajpayee, Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Huma Qureshi and Tigmanshu Dhulia.
Well, all said and done, let’s see if Chadda impresses people with her performance.
