Imran Khan condemns torture on peaceful protestors

Addressing a rally in Islamabad, the cricket-turned-politician said that the PTI as well as the entire nation was standing with the chief justice of Pakistan. He asserted, “The PTI will start a tsunami march if the Supreme Court’s decision is not accepted”.
He also criticized Sindh government for blocking party workers from holding a peaceful rally in the metropolis city to express solidarity with the independent judiciary.
The provincial police resorted to violence to prevent the party from exercising its fundamental democratic right, he added.
He termed the attack on party workers worst form of state brutality, saying that such coercive measures by the law enforcement agencies are clear evidence that the government will use all its resources to stop the judiciary from performing its responsibilities in a transparent way.
He noted, “Violent measures will not deter the motivated workers of Pakistan Tehreek e Insaf and the party will stand by the judiciary and will foil all attempts aimed at destroying the institution”.
In his view, Malik Riaz and President Asif Ali Zardari, the closes aides, joined hands against the judiciary fearing action against corruption in different sectors. The President was following the path of Pervez Musharraf and made likewise mistake, he added.
He added, “This government could not deliver to the people and has insulted the mandate of the nation, however, I assure you that the PTI, after coming to power, would address the issues of the people on priority basis”.
Earlier in Karachi, the law enforcement agencies baton charged the party workers as they took out a rally in favor of the judiciary and gathered at Fawara Chowk.
When the police used water cannon and tear gas to disperse the rally, clashes erupted between the PTI workers and police personnel.
Later, police apprehended many office bearers of the party including General Secretary Arif Alvi, prominent leaders Ashraf Qureshi, Asad Umar and other leaders of the party.
