Opeth’s Mikael Akerfeldt collaborates with Steve Hackett

Opeth have announced on their official website that the band’s front-man, Mikael Akerfeldt, has teamed up with the former Genesis guitarist, Steve Hackett.

In a statement released by the heavy metal band:

“Mikael has recorded some vocals in collaboration with legendary Genesis guitarist Steve Hackett. Mikael is featured on a re-recording of the classic mega-epos ‘Supper’s Ready’ from 1972?s ‘Foxtrot’ album”.

The unique vocal styling of Akerfeldt would certainly be an interesting collaboration. Although, there is no word when this collaboration would be releasing the record, the band promises to issue an update on their website at the earliest.

Akerfeldt has also reportedly recorded eight additional shows for the Swedish national radio series, ‘De Bortglömda Mästerverken’. The series features Akerfeldt performing mostly obscure progressive and psychedelic rock.

Furthermore, Akerfeldt has also a new project with Porcupine Tree’s Steven Wilson called, Storm Corrosion.
