PTI welcomes disqualification of Prime Minister Gilani
Wednesday, June 20th, 2012 9:24:09 by Faisal FarooqWelcoming the verdict of the Supreme Court for disqualifying Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani, Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan said he and his party is standing by the apex court its decisions.
It is vital to mention here that the PTI along with Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) filed petitions against the Speaker’s ruling in favor of the premier.
Speaking to the media the PTI chief observed, “We took decision to approach the apex court because after Yousaf Raza Gilani had been held in contempt; Speaker National Assembly had no authority to question the verdict”.
In his view, the Speaker’s role was simply to transmit the superior court decision to the Election Commission of the Pakistan (ECP), which she didn’t do so.
He stated that Speaker of the National Assembly should have worked according to the ruling of the apex court, which convicted the Prime Minister for defying its orders to reopen cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
It was necessary for the apex court to adjudicate upon it as a situation of constitutional deadlock was created after the Speaker closed the case.
Terming the court’s ruling historic, he said the judgment has demarcated limits of judicial and parliamentary authority.
He noted, “It will set a precedent that once superior judiciary has convicted someone, no non judicial forum can hold otherwise”.
He was of the opinion that disqualification from membership of legislature would be automatic when once conviction from a court of law has attained finality.
He declared the ruling a victory for rule of law, final analysis for equity and justice and supremacy of Constitution. He remarked, “The PTI salutes the Supreme Court for demonstrating that before law everyone is equal whether a common man or a prime minister”.
On Tuesday, the Supreme Court disqualified Prime Gilani, setting aside ruling of the National Assembly Speaker Dr Fehmida Mirza. According to the verdict, Gilani is no more Member of the National Assembly (MNA).
The order stated that the office of the chief executive fell vacant from April 26, when he was convicted by the seven-member bench of the court for not implementing court’s ruling of writing letter to Swiss authorities to reopen graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.

Mr I.K’s demand for an early election not only shows his immaturity but also is an insult to all those millions of Pakistanis who queued for hours to vote in 2008. In the history of Pakistan no government has ever completed its tenure and this shows how much we lack respect for others and patience.
If he thinks the current government isn’t solving our problems then its up to the people of this country vote some one else instead of PPP government. Can’t he just wait just a few more months even? Amazing to see his impatience.
PTI should only contest general elections. After the electoral rolls arr completed. PML Q won all the by elections but lost the general elections. By the can any one give me any statement of nawaz and shahbaz on malik riaz. Am i not reading deep into news papers or did they really not said any thing about malik riaz.
These are high times and I will request IK to take the decision of contesting the vacant seat. This will surely show us the picture of the PTI fame in Multan.
