Islamabad: (Thursday, June 21, 2012) Leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam, Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman, considering himself a suitable candidate for the premiership just vacated by the disqualified Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani, called
MQM chief Altaf Hussain and its parliamentary leader Dr Farooq Sattar and sought their support in tomorrow’s election for the big post.
During his telephonic conversation with Altaf Hussain, the JUI head briefed him about the talks held with Pakistan Muslim League N and Q in connection with the prime minister’s election for which the latter is a candidate.
Maulana Fazl was of the view that the political rivalry was now heading towards out and out confrontation and feared that the democracy would be dealt a serious blow if once again the nation had to face a general’s rule.
Earlier today, he called Dr Farooq Sattar and sought his party’s support for him as the Lower House is due to meet on Friday (tomorrow) to elect Pakistan’s next Prime Minister.
The leader of the JUI F also contacted Aftab Sherpao, the head of Pakistan People’s Party Sherpao group, to seek his support during the elections.
