Ian Bell supports England’s rotation policy

England batsman Ian Bell has put his weight behind Coach Andy Flower’s policy to rotate his bowlers in order to avoid fitness issues in a gruelling international schedule.

English team management has decided to rest three main bowlers – Stuart Broad, James Anderson and Graeme Swann – for Friday’s final encounter against West Indies.

The Englishmen have already secured the series 2-0. So, England’s selectors can afford to try different things ahead of some important series.

It is not the first time Andy Flower has made this move, as James Anderson and Broad were rested for the last Test match against West Indies after the home side won the series.

Although some are against this policy, Bell is convinced that the English management is doing the right thing to keep the players fresh and fit. The Poms are scheduled to meet South African and Australia later this year.

"There’s a heavy schedule coming up. We need to look after these guys. There’s this big series against Australia coming up, and South Africa after that.  The key to our success in one-day cricket is having five out-and-out world-class bowlers. So if we want
to beat the Australians, we want these guys fit and fresh and ready to go," said Bell who scored a tremendous ton in the opening One Day International against the Windies.

"It’s a good option to let them have a bit of a breather and it gives an opportunity to the likes of Meaker, Woakes and Tredwell. When I played for the Lions, Meaker is genuinely fast – so it will be exciting to see him have a go. Looking down the line,
at World Cups and Champions Trophies, it’s great to give these guys an opportunity and gain more experience,” the classy right-hander added.

Bell admitted that the audience wants to see the greats like Swann, Broad and Bresnan in action, but their absence will give youngsters a chance to prove their mettle.

He described, "It has slightly weakened our attack, but I still think it is a team that can go out and beat West Indies. There’s no doubt people want to come to see the Broads, Andersons and Bresnans. But they will be seeing young, exciting guys who will
be big players for England over the next few years.
