Wang Xiaoli and Yu Yang (F), China’s best female shuttlers, employed all of their skills against their compatriots Tian Qing and Zhao Yunlei in the title match and wrapped up Women’s Singles title at the Indonesia Open Premier Super Series 2012 on Sunday,
June 17, at Jakarta, Indonesia.
The World Number One Xiaoli and Yang, who have been putting up sensational show of top quality badminton throughout the event, stretched their winning run in the final and defeated their second seeded opponents in a sensational fight.
The top seeded Xiaoli and Yang found an ominous start in the match and lost the first game but fought back into the match by winning the second game. Nevertheless, they continued showing their strong character in the decider and won the match with a close
margin.
In the meanwhile, the World Number Two and second seeds in the tournament Qing and Yunlei grabbed the first game but lost the second one easily. However, the put up a good resistance in the final game but failed to stop the progress of their higher ranked
team-mates and lost the battle with a respectable difference.
Both pairs showed their elite craft in the first set while playing at their best speed and remained close on the score board until the one-minute interval.
After the break, the tops seeded Xiaoli and Yang became a little sluggish and eventually lost the opening game to their country-mates with a margin of 17-21.
In the following set, Xiaoli and Yang made a strong comeback as they played on a completely different level and injected more power into their shots. They commanded the pace of rallies and took the set easily with a one-sided score of 21-9.
In the decider, both pairs fought to their maximum limit and progressed closely until the mid-game interval.
Xiaoli and Yang changed their tactics after the break and dominated the pace of rallies. They remained successful in taking a reasonable lead and maintained it until the end to wrap up the set with a margin of 21-16.
The higher ranked Xiaoli and Yang emerged as winners in the title match in three games with a thrilling 17-21, 21-9 and 21-16 score on the board.
