Luke Wood and Mathew Johnson dominate swimming events – 2012 British GAS ASA Nationals

Luke Wood and Matthew Johnson pocketed gold medals of the Men’s 50m backstroke and 200m butterfly respectively on first day of the 2012 British GAS ASA Nationals in Sheffield, England.

Firstly, Wood outsmarted his opponents in the 50m discipline by winning gold medal of the event. His tremendous pace placed him marginally ahead of his opponents from the start as he clocked an effort of 25.77 seconds for the crown of the event.

He was followed by his teammate David Gregory, who stayed only 0.02 seconds behind and tapped the finishing end with an effort of 25.79 seconds for silver medal.

The silver medallist was chased by Joseph Patching, who stayed half body length behind and made his way to the finishing end with an effort of 25.26 seconds for bronze medal.

Fourth position of the discipline was secured by Charlie Boldison, who stayed just 1.01 seconds slower from outsmarting his foregoing finisher and clocked a timing of 26.27 seconds.

Boldison was followed by Kieran McGuckin, who stayed two strokes apart and finished fifth in the event with an effort of 26.66 seconds.

Following that Johnson snared gold medal of the Men’s butterfly distant discipline. With his invincible efforts, he remained almost one body length faster from his following swimmer and tapped the finishing end with the timing of 1 minute and 59.71 seconds.

The gold medallist was chased by Cameron Brodie, who stayed 0.85 seconds apart and made his way to the medal rostrum for silver medal with an effort of 2 minutes and 00.56 seconds.

The second position holder was followed by Iain Macmillan, who stayed 0.43 seconds apart and proved his eligibility for bronze medal of the discipline by posting a time of 2 minutes and 00.99 seconds.

Fourth spot of the race was secured by Thomas Haffield, who remained 0.65 seconds apart and transpired on the finishing blockade with the timing of 2 minutes and 01.64 seconds.

Furthermore, the session ended after the completion of all planned events in Men and Women’s category.
