MacBook Air 13-inch (2012): Full Review – Part 1
Thursday, June 21st, 2012 6:41:53 by Usman KhalidApple’s annual Worldwide Developers’ Conference brought a number of new devices and operating systems. Among others was the 2012 model of the MacBook Air, the 13-inch and 11-inch. All the rumours that Apple might release a 15 incher in the line of Air have been mooted by both MacBook Pro 15-inch and no MacBook Air 15-inch.
The new Air brings a number of upgrades to the table but the shape overall remains the same as the last year’s model, or original 2007 release for that matter. Word on the street was that Apple might include the signature Retina Display to the new Air but that was not the case in reality.
The new MacBook Air has a number of upgrades in terms of hardware specifications but the shape is more of less the same as the 2012 iteration, albeit the new keyboard and the screen bezel. Mac OS X comes pre-installed in this new MacBook but the users will be up for a treat as the company announced a free upgrade to the upcoming Mountain Lion version upon its release late this summer.
The new Apple products embraces the new line of processors from Intel but unlike the new MacBook Pro with Retina Display, it lacks the dedicated NVIDIA graphics cards. There are some subtle changes to the shape but it still upholds the same tapered design as the years before.
Hardware
The new MacBook Air brings in the Intel Ivy Bridge dual-core Core i5 processor clocked at 1.8 GHz that is supported by 4 GB of DDR3 RAM for fluent processing. For an ultrabook, this is top-of-the-line specification that any vendor can provide.
