Dereck Chisora’s camp reacts as WBC upholds his ban!

The World Boxing Council (WBC) Supreme Board of Governors recently held a meeting in Mexico to review the disciplinary actions, which were imposed on Dereck Chisora due to his behaviour before and after his bout against Vitali Klitschko last February 18 in Germany.

Former British heavyweight champion, Chisora, slapped Vitali at the weigh-in and spat water at his younger brother Wladimir, the WBC heavyweight champion, as a result to which WBC heavily fined Chisora and handed him with an indefinite ban.

WBC wanted Chisora to complete anger management classes but since he has not done so, the council has decided to uphold their decision.

WBC statement said that what Chisora has done has “never been seen before in boxing.”

The statement went on: “The WBC followed its rules and regulations due to the fact that Chisora has not even showed any sign of regret or apology.

“The WBC concluded that with his acts he put in danger the development of the bout.. and it was considered that he stained the credibility of boxing as any boxer ever to be known had committed so many acts of aggressiveness, disrespect and mockery of ‘fair play’, in addition to have violated several disciplinary rules of the organisation.”

Chisora’s camp and his promoter, Frank Warren, believe that the response of the WBC is heavy-handed.

The camp especially mentioned the name of the undefeated American legend, Floyd Mayweather junior. The camp stated Mayweather was pleaded guilty yet WBC allowed him to fight.

Chisora’s Camp said, “The response of the WBC is heavy-handed and inconsistent with the approach they have taken over other fighters. The WBC did not take away Floyd Mayweather Jnr’s belt after he pleaded guilty to beating his ex-girlfriend and the mother of his children. He retained his welterweight title and the WBC went on allow him to fight for a WBC belt against Miguel Cotto on 5 May, his sentence for the crime being put back to allow him to do so.”

Well, all said and done, let’s see if WBC reconsiders their decision or not.

Dereck Chisora is currently set to face David Haye at the West Ham’s Upton Alley on July 14 and their fight is being sponsored by the Luxembourg Boxing Federation.
