New Delhi: (Saturday, June 23, 2012) Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has welcomed the appointment of new Pakistani Prime Minister Pervaiz Ashraf and said that he was confident of strengthening ties between the two neighbours.
After Yousuf Raza Gilani’s disqualification, the Pakistani parliament has elected Raja Pervaiz Ashraf as the new Prime Minister of the country. His election has ended, at least for the time being, the political upheaval in the
country.
In a rare development, India chose to refrain from commenting on Pakistan’s internal crisis sparked by apex court’s decision ousting Yousaf Raza Gilani over contempt charges.
Yesterday, Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh congratulated his Pakistani counterpart and said, “Our two countries will continue to make progress in their bilateral dialogue…(and) build good neighbourly relations by strengthening
their cooperation in all areas for the benefit of the peoples of both countries.”
