Shahram Changezi beats Sohail Shahzad to book semi-final spot of 3rd Ranking Snooker

Snooker fans at the Karachi Gymkhana Club enjoyed the most watching their favourite potters in action during the quarter-final stage of Jubilee Insurance Third National Ranking Snooker Championship 2012. In the quarter-final stage of the event, the top seed potter Shahram Changezi was able to claim the victory over experienced Sohail Shahzad by the score line of 5-4.

The pair performed convincingly in the round robin formatted group stage matches to qualify for the quarter-final stage. Changezi and Shahzad were in good shape throughout the event and they finished on top positions in their group results. The Changezi-Shahzad clash was one of the most tussling encounters of the event that ended in a decider frame.

Changezi dominated the first session as he breezed into 3-1 lead putting up an excellent snooker display. The clash began with a superb snooker display from Changezi when he cruised into quick lead of 1-0 winning the first frame of the match by the score line of 75-36 with the help of a marvellous break.

Islamabad’s Changezi fired a tremendous knock to win the second set by the score line of 71-15 and extend his lead to 2-0. Shahzad came back into the game during the third frame proceedings. Both potters went neck-to-neck during the third frame but eventually Changezi prevailed with a 66-52 score line.

Shahzad grabbed an easy win in the fourth frame by the score line of 38-55 to add one frame victory on his side of the score board before the end of first session.

Shahzad claimed the fifth frame by the score line of 47-66 pocketing classy small breaks to move one frame up at 3-2. The local favourite pulled level at 3-3 hitting the sixth frame win by the score 19-58. Next two frames were shared between the two potters who dragged the game into the decisive frame. The final frame was an easy victory for Changezi which he clinched by 57-6 to confirm his entrance in the semi-final stage of the tournament.
