The ruling Olympic Champions Markis Kido and Hendra Setiawan of Indonesia powered their way into Men’s Doubles semi-final after crushing Goh V Shem and Lim Khim Wah of Malaysia at the top-eight stage in 2012 Singapore Open Super Series in Singapore on Friday,
June 22.
Kido and Setiawan, who are World Number 8 and are fourth seeded players in Men’s Doubles draw of the tournament, showed their aggression in the court and gave a severe lesson to their Malaysian challengers.
The former World Champions Kido and Setiawan showed their impressive run in the court and overpowered V Shem and Khim Wah in straight games with a reasonable margin.
In the meanwhile, V Shem and Khim Wah could not live up to expectations while playing against their experienced Indonesian rivals and lost to them without putting up gutsy performance in quarter-final clash.
The Malaysians played at their best in the opening rallies of first game and matched the pace of rallies by remaining quick in all areas.
Kido and Setiawan, in the meanwhile, were calm and collected in the court and managed to take a small lead until the mid-game interval.
After break, Kido and Setiawan continued their positive run by dominating the pace of rallies and also pushed their rivals on the back foot by executing their powerful smashes and strong pushes in the middle of the court.
The in-form Kido and Setiawan remained on track and bagged the first game with decent 21-18 score on the board.
Kido and Setiawan were on a different level in the second game as they played at their best and took a striking lead of 11-4 until the mid-game interval.
After the break, the Indonesians did not slow down their speed at any stage and thrashed their Malaysian rivals easily by ending up the second set with a four-point advantage of 21-17 on the board.
The aggressive Kido and Setiawan showed their elite skills in the court and won the quarter-final battle in two games with a comfortable score of 21-18 and 21-17.
