Tesla releases Model S, the first four-door electric saloon with the highest mileage recorded – Part 1
Monday, June 25th, 2012 4:24:21 by Usman KhalidTesla official unleashed the much anticipated sedan version of its electric vehicles, the Model S. The new luxury car incorporates sleek cuts and a reasonable power train to take from point A to B in blistering speeds.
The company showed off its new range of sedans in Fremont, California with a bunch of journalists hovering around to take first-hand experience of the first fully electric four-door vehicle. The exterior is as exquisite as the interior with no-nonsense shebang in either side. However, the new vehicle is very simple to drive and even more efficient on the fuel consumption, or the complete lack of it, thereof.
Though it is touted as a full-fledged sedan, the Model S in all versions has a big hatch in the back that opens up a lot more space for any type of cargo from a bicycle to three, four suitcases. It also has room for optional twin rear-facing seats in the cargo compartment as there is no division between the cabin and trunk, giving a hybrid feeling of a hatchback and an SUV.
The silent animal with an 85 kWh battery has enough muscle packed in to defeat the likes of BMWs, Audis and Mercedes’ to a punch. Tough it might be on the shorter side of the stick in terms of top speeds, it surely has acceleration built in its genome and is quite at the same time.
Due to the reason that its power train runs around an electric motor, the new Model S offers no or little noise at the most. However, the innards have not completely been isolated from the outside world. There is a still the sound of wind whistling on the doors and the ceiling, but it is bearable to the higher extent.
Power Matters
The Model S comes in three iterations with respect to the batteries nestled inside. The base model offers 40 kWh lithium-ion battery, the middle one has 60 kWh power source and the top trim takes its charge from an 85 kWh battery.
