India’s Saina Nehwal poses a major threat to power-packed Chinese line-up at 2012 Olympic Games

India’s ace shuttler Saina Nehwal, who has taken the sport to a different level in the country, poses a major threat to the domination of Chinese shuttlers in Women’s Singles category at the upcoming 2012 Olympic Games as she is in staggering form at the
moment.

The 22-year-old Saina, who has been ranked at number 5 in Women’s Singles world placements, is close to her hundred percent now as she grabbed two consecutive titles in two back-to-back weeks.

In the current month, she won the 2012 Thailand Open Grand Prix Gold and the 2012 Indonesia Open Premier Super Series.

In Indonesia Open, the Indian shuttler proved her supremacy against her higher ranked Chinese opponents including Wang Shixian and Li Xuerui and wrapped up her first ever Premier Super Series Title.

For the last six months, Saina has been working hard under the patronage of Pullela Gopichand, who is former All England Open Champion and current national coach of India.

In 2009, Saina made her presence felt to the world by winning many major titles and became the first Indian female player who won the Super Series tournaments.

In 2010, she remained unlucky as she had to pass through a bad patch as she suffered with a series of injuries and could not live up to expectations at international arena.

However, Saina improved her mental toughness and fitness level by overcoming her injuries in the opening months of current year and won the Swiss Open Grand Prix Gold in March.

The two back-to-back victories in last two weeks proved Saina as one of the most dangerous players for Chinese shuttlers considering that she defeated two top shuttlers of China in quarter-final and final of Indonesia Open.

Saina has improved her defensive skills in the recent months as she put up superb show of defensive strokes on different occasions while playing against the best shuttlers in the world in the last couple of tournaments.

The improvement in Saina’s game indicates that she is quite ready to shake the boat of power-packed Chinese line-up in Women’s Singles category at Olympic Games and can win a medal in London by creating major upsets in the mega event.
