Islamabad: (Tuesday, June 26, 2012) The Supreme Court of Pakistan has directed the ministry of Law and Justice to complete the process to appoint the Special Ant-Corruption Judges for Karachi and Hyderabad within no later than
three days.
Giving their remarks on a constitutional petition, a three-member bench comprised of Chief Justice of Pakistan Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain, also directed the authorities
for speedy appointment of judges for Banking Courts across the country.
Sharing details before the court, Deputy Attorney General Raja Aleem Abbasi said that there is no judge in Anti-corruption court of Karachi since May 25, 2011.
Giving the remarks, the Chief Justice said that many of the accused got free as there were no judges to hear the cases, and then, the blames for lapse too fall on the courts’ shoulders. He said, “The court has failed to understand
why the government is delaying the appointment.”
Justice Jawwad S. Khawaja said that the introduction of provision for due process was the main job of the parliament, however, when the process for judges appointment at these courts would be delayed, there was no way for the cases
to proceed further.
While adjourning the hearing until July 2, the court directed the concerned authorities to fill the vacant posts as soon as possible.
