PML-Q Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi appointed as Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan
Tuesday, June 26th, 2012 12:13:06 by Faisal FarooqFinally, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi has been appointed Deputy Prime Minister of the country after the conclusion of intense negotiations between the ruling Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) and its coalition partner Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q).
The government on Monday issued a notification declaring that Pervaiz Elahi, who holds of the portfolios of Defence Production and Industries, would be Deputy Prime Minister of Pakistan. It, however, didn’t define the ambit of the post.
According to the reports, the new post was created to provide a backup for the times when the incumbent prime minister is invalided or not available.
It is vital to highlight here that the PML-Q, the largest ally party of the PPP, demanded to create a post of deputy prime minister just after its inclusion in the Gilani’s cabinet.
Although the government did not pay attention to the demand, it was forced to do so after disqualification of former prime minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani.
In the meantime, as many as fifteen members of the PML-Q have been inducted in the cabinet of newly elected Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf. However, three members including Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat, Raza Hiraj & Riaz Pirzada refused to join the cabinet.
President Asif Ali Zardari administered oath from the newly inducted Ministers and Ministers of State.
Ch. Wajahat Hussain, Sheikh Waqas Akram, Ghaus Bakhash Mehar, Sardar Bahadur Khan Sehar, Anwar Cheema, Jam Muhammad Yousaf, Talib Nakai and Liaqat Bhatti took oath as Federal Ministers.
Sardar Shahjahan Yousuf, Khawaja Sheraz Mehmood, Akram Maseh Gill, Asif Tauseef, Saed Khan Mandokhel, Nauman Ahmad Langerial and Chaudhry Riaz Ahmad were appointed as Ministers of State.
Citing different reasons, three members of the ally party have declined to join Pervez Ashraf’s cabinet.
One of three members, Faisal Saleh Hayat, had filed a case in the Supreme Court against Raja Pervez Ashraf in the Rental Power Project (RPPs). According to the reports, Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain and Pervaiz Elahi made enormous efforts to convince the annoyed members but to no avail.
Meanwhile, the government appointed six advisors to Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf including Hamid Yar Hiraj, Hassan Leghari, Syed Qasim Shah, Sheraz Nazir, Naseer Khan Mengal and Chaudhry Imtiaz Ahmed Ranjha.

That is not all. All NEW ministers will demand NEW cars and new layout of their offices and residences. In the past in-coming ministers have refused to use and take over OLD cars that were used for 90- days by the caretakers. Who in turn also had bought new ones for their 90 day tenure. Watch out for throw away so called auction prices for OLD stuff.
