Polio Vaccination outlawed in North Waziristan

In an attempt to discourage the polio elimination campaign from the country, Mullah Nazir group banned the polio vaccination in WANA, South Waziristan.

The locals believe that the Western powers are spying the area in disguise of the polio immunisation.

A leaflet spread in the area tells the story along with the example of Dr Shakil Afridi, who helped CIA in hunting down Osama Bin Laden.

“If they [the United States and its allies] were so sincere with the Muslims, then why did they bomb us so mercilessly,” the pamphlet states.

It also states, “On the one hand, they are killing innocent children in drone strikes, while on the other hand they are saving their lives by vaccinating them … it’s like a wolf in sheep’s clothing”.

Dr. Afridi conducted a fake polio survey in Abbottabad and helped the agency in finding the most wanted man.

A renowned warlord, Mr. Hafiz Gul put a ban on the oral polio vaccine in the Northern part of Waziristan, also demanded the end to the US drone attacks.

The pamphlet compared the vaccine drops to a sugar-coated poison and also mentions the unfaithfulness of the west towards the Muslims across the world.

The Government is taking necessary measures to take the locals under confidence and to assure them that the campaign is only for their own benefit.
