Islamabad: (Wednesday, June 27, 2012) The Supreme Court of Pakistan has ordered action against former Inspector General Gilgit Baltistan (GB) Hussain Asghar who has declined to rejoin the hajj corruption investigations despite
receiving orders from the apex court.
Earlier this month, the federal government had informed the court that Asghar had been relieved of his duties in GB and was now available to join the FIA hajj corruption investigation.
The Supreme Court had taken a suo motu notice of the Hajj scam back in 2010. A three-member bench comprised of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Justice Jawwad S Khwaja and Justice Khilji Arif Hussain that heard the case.
Today, as proceedings on the cases started, the court was told that Hussain has not resumed his probe responsibilities. Getting to know about the situation, the Chief Justice remarked that he is just an employee of the government
and not above the prime minister.
The CJ said, “Stop his salary if he does not resume charge.”
