Islamabad: (Wednesday, June 27, 2012) The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), while complying with the Supreme Court’s Orders, has issued a new code of conduct today for the upcoming general elections.
According to the details, the code of conduct prohibits the candidates to transport the voters to the polling stations on their cars.
It also states that the campaign expenditure should not be more than 1.5 million, while wall-chalking and use of loudspeakers for campaigning and sloganeering will not be allowed either.
Earlier, the Supreme Court had released the orders on a petition seeking reduction of elections expenses.
Workers Party Pakistan’s (WPP) president, Advocate Abid Hasan Minto, who was also the petitioner of this case, told the court that contesting in elections have become very expensive and it was quite difficult for a common man to
contest against a man who has ample amount of money to spend on the case.
