Kyle Mills wary of West Indies threat
Wednesday, June 27th, 2012 3:49:53 by Rana Nasir GhafoorNew Zealand fast bowler Kyle Mills has said that even though West Indies are not a consistent side, it makes them a very tough opposition in the limited-over cricket. The Kiwi pacer described that the Windies are quite unpredictable and can produce a shocking
result any moment.
"I find the West Indies always have a really hard team to read. I find them a little bit like Pakistan – they’re either amazing or they’re really inconsistent. It’s how you strike them on that day or in that series. You don’t know what you’re going to get.
We’ve got a lot to look out for and a lot to plan for the series," the experienced 33-year-old said ahead of his team’s Twenty20 competition against West Indies.
West Indies have plenty of dangerous T20 players such as, Chris Gayle, Dwayne Bravo, Kieron Pollard and many others. Despite a star-studded line-up, they failed to do anything special on their recent tour to England, where the visiting side suffered an embarrassing
defeat in all three formats of the sport.
After such a terrible defeat, the Windies are determined to bounce back and therefore, Mills does not want to take anything for granted. Yet, he feels that the Black Caps are in far better position, as West Indies would be tired after a gruelling England
tour.
"We need to be ready from ball one. Our preparation leading into the first game is really important. We haven’t been playing, they have been so we need to get up to speed heading into that," said Mills, who has played 19 Tests, 135 ODIs and 27 T20Is.
He continued, "In saying all that, we’re going to be pretty fresh and hopefully they’ll be pretty stale from playing not just two series but two hard series. Hopefully we can catch them a bit battered mentally."
West Indies and New Zealand are all set to meet in two T20 matches in USA prior to their complete bilateral series in New Zealand. The two sides are scheduled to take on each other in five-match One Day International series ahead of their two Test matches.
