Elizabeth Tower is the New Name for London’s Big Ben

In regards to the queen’s 86^th birthday, one of the most historic buildings in the world, Big Ben will be renamed Elizabeth Tower.

The 2012 also brings the queen’s 60^th successive year on the British throne and she is definitely the most admired figure both inside the Great Britain and abroad.

Big Ben is part of the Britain’s Houses of Parliament and its official name is the Clock Tower commonly known through its street name, Big Ben.

The change of name was welcomed by the United Kingdom’s Prime Minister, David Cameroon and he briefed it as a tribute to the Queen’s 60 years of service.

“The renaming of the Clock Tower to the Elizabeth Tower is a fitting recognition of the Queen’s 60 years of service,” he mentioned.

“This is an exceptional tribute to an exceptional monarch”.

People from different parts of the world visit London every day because of its attractions and the Clock Tower is one of them.

A UK based Polish National, currently residing in Leyton, London, Asia Banaskiewicz shared her thoughts on the name change.

“Big Ben is so historic and changing the name does not make any sense,” she quoted.

“People coming from different parts of the World would not really understand what the Elizabeth Tower is”.

“I have always called it Big Ben since I was a five and I will keep on using the same name, it was, it is and it always will be Big Ben for me,” she concluded.

A UK based Pakistani businessman Faisal Tanveer Chaudhry briefed, “Big Ben was kind of catchy and we were so used to it”.

“It will be difficult to start calling it Elizabeth Tower all of a sudden innit? However, the Queen deserves it”.

Just like the Eiffel Tower and the Statue of Liberty, the Clock Tower is very famous among the tourists and a significant number of foreigners visit the UK every day just to see the masterpiece.

The Big Ben is more admirable on the New Year eve as the streets near the building are flooded with the locals and the visitors, desperately waiting on the big hands of clock to hit 12, so that they can start a new chapter in their lives.
