The supporting tour of the album, named ‘The World Slavery Tour’, recorded the band’s largest tour, which consisted of 193 appearances in 28 countries, spanning over 13 months.
Many of these shows were played in the same city successively, including the appearance at Long Beach, California, and majority of the footage of the band’s live release ‘Live After Death’ was recorded at these back-to-back shows.
During this period of time, Iron Maiden also shared the stage with Queen at the ‘Rock in Rio’ festival, performing in front of an estimated crowd of around 300,000.
Following the gigantic tours successively, the band went on to a break. Following their return, they opted to try a bit different style for their sixth studio album, Somewhere in Time. The record, which was released in 1986, featured synthesised bass and guitars to add layers and textures to their sound. The experimentation was acclaimed all around the world with ‘Wasted Years’ being said to be the record’s best single.
Iron Maiden continued with their experimentation in their next studio album, ‘Seventh Son of the Seventh Son’, which was released in 1988. It was a conceptual album, based on the Tales of Alvin Maker series of Novels by Orson Scott Card, and recorded the band’s first album to include keyboards.
