Google launches new Nexus Q media streaming device with a different shape – Part 1

The Day One of the Google I/O showcased a number of new gadgets announcing that the search engine giant is officially into the original equipment manufacturing (OEM) business. One of the devices, worth noticing, was the new blob-shaped media-streaming device called Nexus Q.
The new streaming source is up for grabs for $300, which might look a little too expensive, especially in the presence of trending Apple TV and Roku LT/HD which are available for $100 or less. The reason for its expensive price tag is the features it brings to the table.
In addition to the streaming video and audio content to Android-based devices and televisions, it has an in-built 25-watt amplifier to power-up the audio signals to the home theatre sound system. In the alternative like the Apple TV and Roku, an extra amplifier is required to supply a decent audio stream to the home theatre system. Nexus Q, on the other hand, is a one-stop shop to pull off great sound. There is no need for a separate A/V receiver to power up the audio signals.
The included amplifier alone justifies the otherwise considered beefed up price tag. Sonos Connect:Amp also features a built-in amplifier clocked at 55-watts. Though it has more power, it still costs a lot more than 300 bucks. The Sonos Connect:Amp is available for $500 and it only streams audio content. Therefore, Nexus Q’s overall feature-package is worth paying $300.
The shape is the most interesting part of the device. Unlike Apple TV and its somewhat copy of the outlook, Roku LT, are slab-like simple media devices that have a footprint as wide as the complete structure of the device.
