Simon Santoso, the ace shuttler from Indonesia, stunned the world by grabbing his first title at the Indonesian Open Premier Super Series 2012 and proved that he hold the Indonesian flag at international stage after the retirement of Taufik Hidayat who will
quit after Olympic Games.
In the final of Indonesia Open, Santoso overpowered Du Pengyu of China on Sunday, June 17, in Jakarta.
The calm and composed Santoso, who has been playing tremendous game in the entire competition; finally won his first ever Premier Super Series title to make his home fans happy.
Santoso, who is ranked at number 7 in Men’s Singles world rankings, was outstanding in his shot selection and he outmanoeuvred his opponent in a hard-fought three games with a staggering score.
Pengyu, in contrast, could not continue his winning streak as he failed to overpower the aggressive Indonesia and eventually lost to him in three games after working hard for 79 minutes in the court.
Santoso showed his impressive class by playing controlled badminton and he did not spare any chance for his rival to play normal game at any stage in the opening half of first game.
The Indonesian took a superb lead on the score board until the end of opening half.
After the one-minute break, Santoso remained positive and composed in the court and managed to win the first game with a reasonable margin of 21-18.
In the following game, Pengyu remained dominant from the starting points as he played with aggression this time and also took a comfortable lead until the mid-game break.
After the one-minute interval, Santoso geared up his speed and narrowed the difference but failed to stop the aggression Pengyu and eventually lost the set with a huge margin of 13-21.
Both shuttlers showed their aggressive skills until 6-6 when Santoso found a wonderful flow and took five consecutive points to establish an 11-5 lead on the score board until the end of opening half.
The Indonesian did not let Pengyu to catch up at any stage after the break and bagged the deciding set with a stunning difference of 21-11.
Santoso made his fans proud of him by registering a sensational victory over Pengyu with a margin of 21-18, 13-21 and 21-11 and grabbed the Men’s Singles title.
