3ality takes to the silver screen in Amazing Spider-Man and Prometheus for the first time – Part 3

3ality is not an innovation but the evolution of the current technology, integrating the two cameras together to produce a coherent motion picture in a normal 2D budget. The major benefit of the new equipment is that it can shoot the movie in 3D on the schedule of a 2D movie.

Schklair recalled that the Amazing Spider-Man was slated to be shot in 3D at the 11^th hour and the amazing part is that due to 3ality, Sony Productions did not have to change the schedule for 3D. The new technology saves millions of dollars for production companies.

In the past, producers would have to shoot one scene, and then halt shooting to change out the lens for a closer shot or different angle, resulting in a much longer shoot and an even longer schedule.

3ality uses what is commonly known as stereo image processing, or SIP. The two camera lenses work as one and zooming/focusing is done the same way as a 2D camera. The TS-5, 3ality’s signature camera, includes an image processor constantly looking at the left and right images and adjusting the cameras so they are always properly aligned.

The upcoming Hollywood flicks, Hobbit and Baz Luhrmann’s “The Great Gatsby” starring Leonardo DiCaprio, are the ones critics are keeping their eyes fixes upon. These movies will be setting the trend and final verdict on 3ality’s quality.
