SOTX Auckland International 2012: Ya Lan Chang wins Women’s Singles crown

Ya Lan Chang, an aggressive shuttler from Chinese Taipei, made her presence strongly felt when she clinched the Women’s Singles crown after taming her team-mate Yu Chieh Cheng in the final encounter of 2012 SOTX Auckland International, in New Zealand, last
week.

Ya Lan has been proving her elevated craft in all matches of the tournament and continued her winning run in the title match to earn glory in an inspiring fashion.

The in-form Ya Lan found a smashing start when she clinched the first game with a huge difference. Nonetheless, she had to dig into her reserves in the second game to overpower her rival with a narrow margin. She ended up the final battle in straight games
by taking the court time for just 30 minutes.

In contrast, Yu Chieh played confused game in opening set as she was helpless against the attacking play of her rival.

However, she gave a tough fight to her compatriot in the second set but failed to remain focused in the concluding phase and lost the battle with a close margin.

Ya Lan started her run quite authoritatively in the opening set as she dictated her rival in all areas of the court by controlling the pace of the game.

The aggressive Ya Lan was on a different level as she successfully set up a tremendous lead on the score board until the mid-game interval.

After the interval, Ya Lan continued her power play without facing any interruption from her team-mate.

The aggressive and positive play of Ya Lan helped her to take the first game with a smashing margin of 21-15.

In the meanwhile, Yu Chieh also showed her brilliance in opening rallies of second game as she played to her maximum potential and did not let her rival to dictate the pace.

Both shuttler played at their best by working extremely hard to take charge of rallies and remained toe-to-toe until end of opening half.

After the one-minute break, they continued fighting in the similar fashion and the score reached at the nail biting stage of 23-23.

Ya Lan controlled her nerves at this breath-taking stage and managed to win the set with a remarkable score of 25-23.

The in-form Ya Lan grabbed the title b y proving her mettle in final encounter and eventually won it with a 21-15 and 25-23 margin on the score board.
