Amir Khan vs. Danny Garcia turns into title unification bout

Briton fighter Amir Khan once again has the opportunity to unite titles, and so does Danny Garcia, as their recent bout has turned into a title unification bout. Previously, the fight was for Garcia’s WBC light welterweight title. However, now the WBA light welterweight title is on the line as well.

The CEO of Golden Boy Promotions Richard Schaefer announced yesterday that the WBA is willing to put the title on the line for Khan vs. Garcia bout.

It should be noted here that the WBA stripped Lamont Peterson of the title earlier this week. The decision was based on Peterson’s positive drug test results, which indicated that the American fighter was juiced up when he grabbed the title from Khan last year in December.

“I’ve gotten verbal confirmation that the WBA is going to have Amir fight for the WBA title, so that’s that. As it relates to the WBC, we already know that the fight is also going to be for the WBC title, so their fight will definitely be for two belts,” revealed Schaefer.

Khan, who was agitated over Peterson’s actions, might be at peace now since he has the opportunity to reclaim his title. Peterson grabbed the IBF and the WBA light welterweight titles from Khan. While the WBA title is now up for grabs, the IBF title is still with Peterson.

Khan has filed an official request with the IBF to strip Peterson of the IBF title, owing to the positive drug test. The IBF has yet to make a decision over Khan’s stance.

For now, ‘King Khan’ finally has the opportunity to unite titles once again. Previously, he united the IBF and WBA titles and now it could be a unification of WBC and WBA titles. The news in itself is a joy for Khan and his worldwide fans, who were hoping the Briton pride to regain his titles from Peterson. If not Peterson then at least Khan has the opportunity to outwit Garcia and do the expected.
