He is in a perfect position to start the tour because of his performance in the past few months.
“I’m not really feeling any pressure,” he said.
“I’m in this position now because I’ve done well and that’s a nice thing to be able to say”.
“I remember going into the 2010 Tour answering all the usual questions and knowing that I wasn’t in any sort of form – that’s a different type of pressure”.
“I also have the maturity to be able to lead races and not have it take so much out of you that you need two months off after a big success”.
“The confidence from winning those races has also helped build the momentum”.
Bradley’s long list of wins in the 2012 season include overall victories at the Paris-Nice, Tour de Romandie, Criterium du Dauphine and a third overall position during the Volta ao Algarve.
He also bagged stages at all the mentioned races including a point’s classifications win at the Paris-Nice 2012.
Wiggins is known for his tremendous time trialling abilities and with over a hundred kilometres of racing against the clock in this year’s race, he has a good opportunity of converting them in his favour.
The Tour de France Classifications:
The Tour de France 2012, like all the previous editions includes several categories or classifications including the general classifications, the mountains classifications, the point’s classifications, young rider’s classifications, the team’s classifications and the combativity awards.
The general classifications is the most vital category of them all, it is calculated by adding the finishing time of every rider at the end of the stage.
The cyclist with the least collective time is declared as an overall leader of the race and is awarded by a yellow jersey.
The ride on top of the general classification after the final stage is awarded with the race Trophee and is considered as winner of the contest.
The mountains classification is calculated by the individual performances at the specified climbs during the different stages of the event.
Different mountains are given categories and race organisers classify them either of the hors categorie, first, second third or fourth- category.
All the cyclists are given points for their performances at the different ascends of the race, the rider who reaches the top in the first place is declared as the winner of that specific climb.
The higher category climbs offer more points which are calculated by the end of the stage and the cyclist with more accumulative points after the end of the race is declared the mountains classification winner of the contest.
The winner of the mountains classifications is awarded with a polkadot jersey.
The Point Classification is considered as the second most important category of the race after the general classifications.
The riders are given points for their performances at the individual stages or at the intermediate sprints.
The cyclist with the most points at the race is awarded with a green jersey and is declared as the point’s classifications winner.
