Lexus GS 450h (2012): Full Review – Part 3

The rigid suspension however, has its drawbacks. For one, it does not isolate the driver or the passengers from the road, an aesthetic for which the brand Lexus was infamous for.

One more thing about the new GS 450h is the top-end transmission box upfront. Though it is only used in for the gas engine, as the electric motor has a single transmission, it is a variable gear-box. The gears change quickly in a seamless flow that does not incur power dips to decrease the acceleration.

The interior is as beautiful as the body. The innards give the typical feel of a Lexus with premium quality components and a large 12.3-inch screen that was, until now, the signature inclusion in a Lexus car.

The 12.3-inch screen powered by Enform system takes the centre-stage upfront. It has all the functionalities that a person can hope for in a luxury car. The system is not trimmed down to save costs and has a host of applications from Audio system to satellite navigation to social media apps like Facebook, Twitter, et cetera. Tesla recently nestled a 12.1-inch touch screen in the new 2012 Model S electric sedan. Most of the time, the screen is configured with a main area, occupying two-thirds of the left side, and an auxiliary on the other one-third.

The main controller of the screen is a joystick that moves the pointer. In a nutshell, the joystick part was something done in a hurry and Lexus should have worked more on it. The cursor controller navigates to different controls on the screen but lacks accuracy to a substantial extent. It uses haptic feedback to identify active areas of the screen which is a little cumbersome. Turning the haptic feedback to maximum helps refine the accuracy in pointing to controls on the screen.
