Eoin Morgan’s match-winning knock against Australia is no surprise, says Steven Finn
Sunday, July 1st, 2012 9:38:06 by Rana Nasir GhafoorEngland quick bowler Steven Finn wants his teammate Eoin Morgan to continue the good work after playing a splendid innings against Australia in the opening One Day International at Lord’s on Sunday.
The left-hander smashed a magnificent 89-run-knock to steer England to an excellent 15-run triumph over world’s number ODI side. Morgan was dropped from the Test side following his terrible show against Pakistan earlier this year.
Finn, who knows Morgan since the early days of his career, has stated that his Middlesex team-mate’s 63-ball innings was no surprise, terming Morgan as a ‘little wizard.’
He uttered, "I have played a lot of cricket with Eoin, since we were 16 years old, and I have seen him do it lots of times before. It is no surprise he is doing it in international cricket – he is one of the best players in the world, especially in that
sort of situation.”
“To have him around with his experience – he has played a lot of one-day cricket with Ireland, Middlesex and England – is fantastic. How he comes up with some of those shots, I have got no idea. He is a little wizard."
He added, "He is very calm. When he bats he is very calculated. He knows what he wants to achieve and knows how he wants to do it. Things didn’t go quite his way in the Emirates, but we are cricketers and we expect that – and we move on.”
“All you can deal with is what is going to happen in the future; if he gets another opportunity in Test cricket, he will take it – as he has been doing in one-day cricket.”
The young pacer described that Morgan has returned to international arena with fresh head and plenty of energy. He wants the Ireland-born batsman to regain his Test spot as early as possible.
On Australia challenge, the fast bowler explained that there are still four games left in the series and the Englishmen cannot afford to take things lightly, adding that going 2-0 up in the series is the top priority at the moment.
