Michael Schumacher believes Valencia podium was a good reply to his critics
Sunday, July 1st, 2012 5:50:12 by Kashif KhanMichael Schumacher believes that his podium finish at the European Grand Prix was the best way to relieve him from all the criticism he has been the target of from his critics.
Schumacher thanked Mercedes for keeping faith and trust in him and explained how he enjoys working with a team like Mercedes that has become like a family for him.
The German started the race from 12th position on the grid to and finished 3rd a great achievement considering he was short on confidence coming into the race because of the bad luck he has had in the season so far.
Schumacher decided to pit in the race when there were only 13 laps left, a decision that was viewed with scepticism as it was a very crucial time of the race and the German was placed fifth at the time.
The seven-time champion got back on track and started from 11th place and started to move up the order. He had Red Bull driver Mark Webber challenging him as the Aussie stayed close to his Mercedes.
Schumacher made good use of the fresh tyres and moved up to sixth place and Lewis Hamilton and Pastor Maldonado had a collision in the penultimate lap of the race allowing Schumacher to move up further. He finished with a podium at the end of the race with Webber finishing 4th making good use of the German’s overtaking abilities and went past the cars easily that Schumacher overtook.
“It’s very special and very exciting,” he said. “For all my boys – we’ve been criticised lately – it’s just the best answer to give, to get on the podium. I never lost trust in my boys and they did not lose trust in me and that’s what team effort is all about. That’s what is so important to me, to have this team and this family around me when everybody pulls on one string. The right answer is to do what we have shown today and I hope to have many more moments together with my guys.”
It will be interesting to see how Schumacher deals with the future races with a podium finish under his belt and a lot of burden off his shoulders to perform.
