Homs bombed as Syrian opposition meets in Cairo
Monday, July 2nd, 2012 4:27:17 by Taimoor TariqThe Syrian army continued the bombing of rebel areas in the Syrian city of Homs where doctors have been forced to amputate the wounded due to lack of medical support.
The shelling was especially intense in the districts of Khaldiye and Al-Jourat Chayah according to Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.
“Many neighbourhoods in Homs are still besieged and it’s very difficult for us to get food and medicine,” said an activist.
Doctors in hospitals are in the process of amputating the wounded as they do not have the equipment required for treating the wounded who cannot be evacuated. People cannot get out and it seems that the bombing will not stop any time soon.
More than a thousand families have been left stranded in the city. According to OSDH, people are sometimes forced to eat moldy bread due to lack of flour, without counting the power cuts and water shortage.
A two-day meeting of the Syrian opposition opened this Monday in Cairo. Ministers of Arab countries are expected to participate.
Meanwhile, tensions remain strong at the Turkish-Syrian border following the F-4 Phantom issue on June 22. Turkish army claims that Syrian helicopters have approached the Turkish border three times this Saturday.
