Lahore: (Monday, July 02, 2012) Amid the rising temperatures in country and a delay in the monsoon rains, the electricity shortfall in Pakistan has reached to 4,870 megawatts. The shortfall is culminating in extending the loadshedding
hours further.
The government and the Energy Management Cell, despite tall claims, have failed to bring about any mentionable improvement and the electricity supply situation throughout the country is worsening day by day. Presently, there has
been virtually no supply of electricity for 12 to 18 hours at various parts of the country.
The present level of power production stands at 12,844 MW compared to the demand of 17,714 MW, therefore the shortfall is 4870MW.
The daily electricity supply to Karachi Electric Supply Company (KESC) is 700 MW. However, despite such huge amount of supply, the citizens in the city face 5 to 6 and in some areas even prolonged hours of loadshedding.
In case of Lahore, the situation appears to be even grimmer as on a daily basis, the city faces up to 12 hours of loadshedding, while the duration of power absence in rural areas has surged to 18 hours.
Faced with high temperatures and water scarcity, people have been facing severe difficulties due to loadshedding.
