Brussels: (Monday, July 02, 2012) Andres Fogh Rasmussen, the NATO Secretary General said here today that it was crucial for both Pakistan and NATO to cooperate with each other.
Talking to the journalists, Rasmussen expressed hopes that Pakistan would soon reopen the NATO supply routes to Afghanistan.
As the US and NATO forces have to travel its goods through a longer route with highly inflated costs, that are not bearable in the long run, they have intensified their efforts to convince Pakistan to reopen the supply routes through
its territory which have been closed down after US commandoes attacked the Salala check post in November 2011 and killed 24 Pakistani soldiers.
After the event, the US even refused to offer a formal sorry over the attacks and the insurmountable human loss.
In order to make another attempt to convince the civil and military authorities in Pakistan, ISAF Commander General John Allen arrived in Pakistan yesterday.
While talking about a future roadmap in Afghanistan, Rasmussen said that the NATO intended to hand over security responsibility to the Afghan forces after building their capacity by 2012. He also requested the world community to
come forward and help in Afghanistan’s development and elimination of corruption.
