Imran Khan urges NAB to investigate cases against politicians
Monday, July 2nd, 2012 12:29:52 by Faisal FarooqPakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) warned to move the Supreme Court if the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) doesn’t open graft cases involving politicians ahead of the general elections.
On Saturday, NAB chief Admiral Fasih Bokhari said that no such cases could be reopened since polls were around the corner.
Chairman PTI Imran Khan issued a press note saying, “The NAB chief does not have any right to stop proceedings in any (political) case. Our party reserves the right to go to the courts regarding the issue”.
It further added, “Admiral Fasih Bokhari has made everything clear by asserting that he had been asked specifically by President Asif Ali Zardari not to reopen cases involving the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership”.
It is vital to mention here that the government had earlier filed a reference against Sharif brothers in a money laundering case. It also ordered authorities to formally investigate how around $32 million had been drawn off in the second term of the PML-N.
Former Interior Minister Rehman Malik had filed references against the PML-N in NAB as well as the Public Accounts Committee (PAC). However, the committee rejected the reference saying that it didn’t fall under its domain.
The PTI leader said that the people of Pakistan want a powerful accountability department, which can initiate political cases against any powerful politician.
He stated, “It seems as if the NAB chief has promised to take it easy on Nawaz Sharif, while it is the nation’s wealth that has been plundered”.
In his view, the responsibility of the NAB was to aggressively pursue all such cases against politicians.
Terming the argument that since elections are near, no further cases can be opened against politicians, very strange, Khan said that thorough probe into all the graft cases becomes all the more necessary in an election year.
PTI Secretary Information Shafqat Mehmood while talking to media said that a top accountability institution should hold an impartial inquiry into all such political cases.
In his view, the cases should not be held back by the possibility of general elections approaching or any other political reason.
He asserted, “Various options are open for us including the alternative to resort to the courts. We will take up this case if NAB relents”.

Imran Sahib aap andhay ho chukay hain.
Apko wo log nazar quin nai atay jo pakistan ko kha chukay hain or abi b kha rahen hain, shame on u to fight only with PML-N
Request SC to disqualify each and every party and poltician except you and your party, so that PTI could win few seats.
Imran still has the illusion after 5 years that Supreme Court is not sympathetic with PML-N, or perhaps it’s hard for him to articulate this fact after years of shouting pro-judiciary slogans. Isn’t Mehran Bank scandal in courts for past 20 years?
