Li-Ning Victorian International: Anup Sridhar emerges as Men’s Singles title winner

Anup Sridhar, an experienced shuttler from India, finally got the much needed breakthrough as he clinched the Men’s Singles title at the Li-Ning Victorian International 2012 in Australia, last week.

In the title match, Anup showed his elevated skills and toppled England’s talented player Andrew Smith.

The second seeded Anup displayed his tremendous craft on court and did not consume much time in finishing off the final encounter against his higher ranked English opponent in a thrashing way.

The second seeded Anup played at his best potential as all of his shots landed perfectly in right areas and he thrashed Smith easily by ending up the contest in straight sets with a stunning margin on the score board.

On the other hand, the higher ranked Smith could not maintain his staggering performance in the final match as he failed to remain positive in the court and bowed down to his Indian opponent in just 35 minutes.

The in-form Anup played perfect game from early points of first set as he faced no trouble from Smith and remained in commanding position.

Smith failed to get points with his powerful smashes as the defence of his Indian opponent was phenomenal.

The Indian was in authoritative position on court as he set up a superb lead against his English opponent until the mid-game break.

After the interval, Anup remained steady on court and also continued his power play which helped him to grab the first game with a huge 21-13 margin on the board.

Smith tried to show his class in the second set by increasing his speed but failed to disturb the flow of his opponent who was on a completely different level in the game.

The court coverage and impressive shot placement helped Anup to dictate the pace of rallies throughout the second set and he did not show any mercy to Smith at any stage.

Anup was in complete control of rallies and he did not face any difficulty in the entire second game and easily won it with a huge difference of 21-11.

The impressive Indian shuttler emerged as the title winner in the Victorian International after finishing off the final contest with a 21-13 and 21-11 score on the board.
