Pakistan take on Palestine in dead rubber clash
Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012 11:27:23 by Shahrukh SohailThe U-22 side face the Palestinians in their last chance to secure a victory in this summer’s AFC qualifiers.
Pakistan went to Saudi Arabia full of confidence and hoping to change around their fortunes for the better. Things got off to a blinder after they narrowly lost 1-0 to the hosts, but following the defeat they failed to maintain their shape and returned to
the old ways of wayward passing and woeful finishing.
As a result, the team find themselves stuck in a tight position behind Sri Lanka going into the clash with Palestine and will surely be looking to grab three points, so that they can at least hold their heads high with pride.
Coach Nasir Ismail has spoken to the media ahead of the clash and claims that finishing has been the main problem encountered by the players and will not be resolved if the team is to progress further.
“We have no excuse for poor finishing at the goal post. This is our biggest weakness. Although we’ve lost three matches, we’re upbeat about our last match against Palestine. We should win that and return home with one win. That is all we are left with,”
the NBP trainer was quoted as saying.
Pakistan take on their Middle-Eastern rivals today at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahd Stadium in Riyadh.
