No case closes against any politician: NAB
Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012 12:55:02 by Faisal FarooqFeeling the heat of criticism by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan, the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) has clarified that no case against any politician has been closed up till now.
He made it clear that proceedings on cases against the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leaders were under process as provisions of NAB Ordinance 1999.
A press note issued by the bureau said, “NAB has not closed even a single case against the Sharif brothers. The proceedings on cases against former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif are under process”.
Earlier on Saturday, NAB Chairman Fasih Bokhari while speaking to the media said that all politically motivated cases, including those against Sharif Brothers, will not be reopened as the general elections are around the corner.
His statement was largely criticized by different circles, particularly by Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). After facing a severe criticism by political stalwarts, Admiral (Retd) Fasih Bokhari took a u-turn on his stance.
The statement issued by the bureau reiterated, “NAB clarifies that it has not closed even a single case against the Sharif brothers”.
It is vital to mention here that three references, including case of willful loan default, Hudaibia Paper Mill, and assets beyond known resources of income, are pending with the National Accountability Bureau (NAB).
A plea had been filed by the bureau to reopen these cases but the court denied accepting its claim, adjourning the case sine-die. According to the statement, the court also rejected the second application of NAB to recommence the cases against politicians.
It noted, “Meanwhile, the Sharif brothers moved the Lahore High Court (LHC) through a writ petition in October 2011, seeking annulment of these references. The court granted stay order in favour of the Sharif brothers”.
Fasih Bokhari according to the statement set up a body under the chairmanship of its prosecutor general accountability to review the reference forwarded through the Crisis Management Cell (CMC) of the Interior Ministry.
It further said, “The committee is at its final stages to formulate the recommendations in the said case. These recommendations would then be presented in the executive board meeting for further proceedings in the case”.

Sharif brothers corruption is not true corruption, only Zardari-Gilani’s corruption is? The incompetence of the sharif brothers is not true incompetence only Zardari-gilanis incompetence is? The cases against sharif brothers are politically motivated but those against Zardari-Gilani are genuine? Sharif brothers 10 years in exile were unjust suffering, but zardaris 10 years in jail without a trial were justice?
The hypocrisy of the courts and the people who follow these ridiculous judgements are disgraceful. If someone still believes the pco courts are independent and impartial, they need a reality check.
Mr. Sharif for your info. Gawadr is part of Pakistan and you can go their without getting any visa. You travel to london and UAE frequently………but Balochistan seems to be off limits to you.
Shareefs are enjoying real immunity so far. They should be brought under the justice system as it is only way to give message to public that they were not that clean and had embezzled public money. Let’s hope now to see them behind bars. Otherwise they will keep on fooling public. Infact NAB chief was asked to give permission to open these cases by accountability court in 2010, but he didn’t allow to do so (it was previous NAB chief though) so the courts did not proceed. Wonder why is that “missed” in the above report. It is truth that Pakistan Peoples Party does not want politics of confrontation and does not want era of 90s once again therefore is not a single political victim during the four and half year tenure of PPP. But it does not mean that who looted public exchequers money will be given free hand or they will be given clean chit. Cases against Nawaz Sharif are not quashed and he will have to face the music for their looting and plundering. Also if PPP opens any case against these brothers there will be a great hue and cry that PPP is peddling on the path of victimization.
