Google/Asus Nexus 7 (2012): Full Review – Part 3
Tuesday, July 3rd, 2012 4:18:23 by Usman KhalidAs mentioned above, the middle of the top bezel has a 1.2-mega pixel camera. However, that is about it, the Nexus 7 does not have any primary or second camera. In fact, the only thing at rear end is the two-inch speaker slit at the bottom of textured casing.
The rear-facing camera is not the only feature that is missing in the device. There are no HDMI output ports, nor is there any expandable memory option in shape of SD cards.
However, for a device with a pocket-money price of $199, that is compromise that any tablet layman will be happy to make. Once the innards are explored, the user will definitely forget about the camera and the expandable memory option. Besides, Google offers at least 5 GB of storage space for free on Google Drive.
Hardware
This is the part that Google is marketing the most and truth be told, it is the part that makes all the difference. In a retrospect, top-end Android tablets and the iPad from Apple have been selling between $500 and $700, for more or less the same hardware specs that I am going to lay down for you.
Google has genetically re-engineered a different breed with the launch of Nexus 7. Though the hardware features in the new tablet are not new to the market—albeit the graphics card—the combination with the price is overwhelmingly attractive.
Under the hood lies the new beast unleashed by NVIDIA earlier this year. Though the adaption of the new Tegra 3 quad-core processor has been progressing at snail’s pace, it still makes a strong statement in the Android market.
Clocked at 1.3 GHz, the Tegra 3 processor comes with all its goodies for the new tablet, but that is only half of the story. Helping the quad-core brain is the 12-core graphic-card that offers best visual effects and higher frame rate for both videos and games.
