After Bruce Dickinson rejoined Iron Maiden, the band’s former guitarist Adrian Smith also jumped on board while Janick Gers – who was originally Smith’s replacement – remained in the line-up.
Dickinson’s primary ambition on rejoining the band was to make a real piece of art album, which eventually took the form of ‘Brave New World’. The record hit the stores in May 2000, and was recorded in Guillaume Tell Studios in Paris with producer Kevin Shirley.
The album was a bit more progressive and melodic than Iron Maiden’s previous works while thematic influences continued to live their legacy in the band’s records. ‘The Wicker Man’ was based on the 1973 British Cult film of the same name while ‘Brave New World’ was taken from Aldous Huxley novel of the same title.
Following world tour consisted of well over 100 performances, and concluded in January 2001 in a show at ‘Rock in Rio’ festival in Brazil in front of a crowd around 250,000. The performance was also recorded for a CD and DVD release, which hit the stores in March 2002 under the name, Rock in Rio.
Iron Maiden released their 13th studio album, Dance of Death, in the summer of 2003 that achieved great success around the globe, both critically and commercially. The following tour was another landmark for the band, as they played to over 750,000 Maiden fans during 50 performances that spanned around four months.
At the end of 2005, the band started working on their next studio album, A Matter of Life and Death, which was released in the autumn of 2006. Despite it was not a conceptual album, it was a critical and commercial success worldwide. The album also earned the band’s first top ten in the Billboard 200, and also received Album of the Year award at the 2006 Classic Rock n Roll of Honour Awards.
