PM Raja Pervez Ashraf urges international community for investment

Urging the international community for direct investment, Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf said there were numerous opportunities for foreign investors in the country’s engineering, power and horticulture sectors.

Addressing the Board of Investment (BOI) meeting, the newly elected premier said that its efforts for speedy resolution of the investors’ problems would enhance their confidence and give an optimistic gesture to the foreign investors.

In order to make the country an attractive investment destination, he said that they will have to facilitate the investors.

He elaborated, “Pakistan is a liberalized economy. We offer equal treatment to local and foreign investors‚ and most of the sectors are open for foreign investment under complete legal protection”.

Raja Pervez Ashraf continued that the country falls among the middle income countries, adding that the presence of large middle class gives vast local market to the new and expanding business.

He insisted that these realities about the country be aggressively projected to enhance FDI (Foreign Direct Investment) inflows in Pakistan.

He asserted, “Despite challenges in the recent past‚ the country’s economy remains resilient to global economy meltdown in spite of devastating floods in the year 2010 and rain floods in 2011 in Sindh‚ coupled with internal and external security environment of the country‚ our exports amounted US 25.439 billion dollars in 2010-11 and are expected to grow further”.

Ashraf was of the opinion that currently the country was in dire need of rapid and reliable growth rate. In his view, the dynamic role of private-sector could re-establish the health of economy and assist to speed up its pace in the light of its enormous and rich prospective.

Minister for Commerce Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Minister for Finance Dr. Abdul Hafeez Sheikh, Minister for Production Mr. Anwer Ali Cheema, Advisor to PM on Petroleum Dr. Asim Hussain, Minister of State for Commerce Mr. Abbas Khan Afridi, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Dr. Nadeem-ul-Haq, Chairman BOI Mr. Saleem H. Mandviwala, and officials of the concerned departments and ministries attended the meeting.
