Islamabad: (Wednesday, July 04, 2012) The Supreme Court of Pakistan, while hearing the dual nationality case here today, has suspended the membership of two MQM lawmakers including Member National Assembly Farhat Muhammad Khan
and a Member provincial Assembly from Sindh Nadia Gabol.
Further proceeding on the case has been adjourned for two weeks.
After taking up the issue, the apex court has already suspended the membership of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) MNA Malik Jamil Awan, PPP’s Zahid Iqbal, Farahnaz Ispahani – MNA and wife of Hussain Haqqani and Rehman Malik,
former interior minister for holding dual nationalities.
Accepting the petition seeking disqualification of the parliamentarians holding dual nationalities, a three member bench headed by Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry and comprising of Justice Jawwad S Khawaja and Justice
Khilji Arif Hussain, also suspended membership of Malik Jamil Awan due to his Dutch citizenship on Tuesday.
Mahmood Akhtar Naqvi had filed a petition in the court, requesting it to direct the Election Commission of Pakistan to obtain the complete record of parliamentarians who held dual nationalities, pleading that the court disqualify
such parliamentarians and restrain them from contesting the next general elections.
