America’s Garrett Reynolds continued his undefeated streak in X Games BMX Street after barely clinching the win in the Final that went down at the Event Deck at L.A. Live on Friday, June 28.

His fellow countryperson and X Games rookie Chad Kerley had to settle for a silver medal, while Dakota Roche, also from America, rounded out the podium to take home the bronze.

Since the inception of BMX Street at X Games in 2008, Garrett has been dominating the event. The 21-year-old New Jersey-based rider collected his first gold medal at the age of 17 and has been maintaining his spot on the top of the podium since then.

Despite his excellent record and intimidating aura, Reynolds was pushed to the limit this year by none other Roche, an 18-year-old rider who was stepping onto the biggest stage of action sports for the first time ever.

The battle between the two riders went down to the wire, keeping the audience on the edge of their seats. There were hardly any differences between their performances, with both of them unleashing a flurry of exquisite tricks in their runs.

Reynolds eventually managed to get his hands on the win after backing a 42.00-point run with a phenomenal final run that earned a score of 43.00, courtesy of a wall-ride 540 bar-spin that had turned out to be his trump card, consequently finishing with a combined two-run total of 85.00 points.

Kerley definitely deserved to take a bow for his remarkable performance in the Final, apparently doing everything he could to try and bringing the undefeated streak of his rival to an end. He did, however, take home the silver medal for his effort after finishing with a combined two-run total of 83.00 points, comprising of a 42.00 and 41.00-point run.

Reynolds was all praises for the young rider who had him cornered for most part of the Final.

“Chad Kerley killed it,” said Reynolds. “If it was up to me, I would’ve given it to him.”

The 24-year-old Roche had did not leave the Final disappointed either. Scoring a 36.00 and 33.00 off his best-two runs, he finished with a combined two-run total of 69.00 points, the same as America’s Jeremiah Smith. However, a higher single-run score of 36.00 against the latter’s 35.00 allowed him to occupy the last place on the podium.
