Malik Riaz tenders unconditional apology to Supreme Court
Wednesday, July 4th, 2012 3:36:15 by Faisal FarooqMalik Riaz, the real estate tycoon, on Wednesday submitted an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court of Pakistan in the contempt of court case.
A three-judge bench of the apex court headed by Justice Mian Shakirullah Jan resumed the hearing of the show-cause notice, which was issued to Malik Riaz on June 13 for leveling charges against Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry at his presser on June 12.
In his reply to the court, the property tycoon tendered an unconditional apology, saying that he was sorry if his remarks had led to any hindrance of justice.
He also submitted a separate application to the court, asking it to summon Arsalan Iftikhar, the son of Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry. He made it clear that his presser was not meant to target the chief justice.
The property developer claimed that his meetings with Chief Justice Chaudhry were held with consent from the latter, saying that he had no other option but to hold the briefing.
Malik Riaz clarified that the objective of his presser was not to tarnish the image of the chief justice but to expose his son, Arsalan Iftikhar.
On June 12, Malik Raiz holding a pocket-sized copy of the Holy Quran in his hands, had hurled severe but contradictory charges against Justice Iftikhar Chaudhry and his son on an issue that is sub-judice, and in defiance of an apex court order to speak to the media.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan issued the show-cause notice to the property tycoon under Article 204 of the Constitution. It reads with Section 3 and 17 of the Contempt of Court Ordinance of 2003, Supreme Court Rules 1980 and all other enabling provisions in the law.
Section 3 of the contempt law mainly deals with the definition of the contempt case while Section 17 is about the procedures suggesting how to move with such matters.
The court notice was taken on a note put up by Supreme Court Registrar Dr Faqir Hussain annexing Urdu transcript of whatever Riaz had said at his news conference.

Does this man expect that because he has tendered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court the matter will now disappear?
Riaz is a pawn in a bigger game that someone else is playing
